Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Soldiers Group

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a colorful mix of heroes, and a thrilling plot showcasing celestial beings, evil spirits, and dark forces growing in power within the city.

Heads-up: Revealing details for the third episode of this adventure lie ahead.

The Warrior Group Revealed

Episode 3 concluded with a huge suspense moment and presented the initial group of heroes who will separate from the main group to begin their independent quest, apart from the other two tables.

This warrior group consists of Teor (brought to life by Travis), the agile character (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (the cast member), Wicander (the player), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond).

Dividing the Cast

With a large ensemble, it was obvious from the start that having everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.

That’s why, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Introduction, intertwining the individual narratives before branching into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Schemers, and Explorers.

What Defines the Combat Party

According to the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who are drawn to a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven narrative style where diplomatic options are few and far between.

At first glance, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might seem mismatched, but the actions of the third episode show why these five characters are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.

Motivations for Departure

First, the party knows exactly where to go next after a brutal opening clash with the enemy group.

A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose passing kicked off the campaign’s events—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, striking the character, and taking all the magical artifacts to auction.

The traitor then settled his liabilities and ran away to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, north of the urban center, with Cyd pursuing him.

Personal Motivations

Moreover, each adventurer has a personal reason to depart Dol-Makjar:

  • Thimble, as the companion and trusted friend, seeks vengeance.
  • Kattigan knows Timmony and cautions that it is a nasty location.
  • The warrior and Wicander, having defied his family’s wishes to kill the target and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
  • But, their reputation as prominent individuals in the powerful family could assist the party enter areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Furthermore, The fighter vowed a life debt to The cleric for his deliverance and will now go with him wherever.

Wanted and Hunted

Lastly, all of them are sought by the authorities that rule the setting for a multiple motives, making lingering locally dangerous:

  • Thimble and Kattigan are known criminals.
  • Tyranny and The healer turned against the powerful family and the army of fiends they are allied with.
  • Teor is targeted for elimination by the family.

This results in them few options but to head to the remote area in quest for Casimir.

Upcoming Developments

Based on episode three’s follow-up content, we discover that the warrior group will not appear next week, leaving the rest of the participants to round up the Explorers and Schemers tables.

Audiences can look forward to learning which characters will be in which group in Campaign 4’s concluding setup installment, streaming live on next week.
