A person who laced treats with sleeping medication and provided them to youngsters at a youth camp in Leicestershire has pleaded guilty to sexual crimes against two children both between nine and ten.
Jon Ruben was detained after eight youngsters and an older person fell ill at the location in mid-summer.
The senior citizen, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, pleaded guilty to a total of 17 charges when he stood at the courthouse on the end of the week.
Yet, he denied one particular crime he was charged with, which was involving a nine-year-old child.
Ruben was kept in jail prior to a additional proceeding on 28 November.
'Treat game'
The legal representative, handling the case, described Ruben's offending to the legal proceedings.
She explained his those affected were children from difficult backgrounds who were attending a summer camp which he operated.
The man conducted a "candy game" with the youngsters, Mrs Prior explained, in which he would enter the sleeping quarters when they were settling down and tell them to consume candy "as quickly as they can".
She stated to the judge the defendant had played this game with the boys "over an extended period", and children had previously fallen ill the subsequent day.
She stated the defendant had been successful in rationalizing this for many years as the minors being "overstimulated by activities", until his stepchild had worries in recently.
Mrs Prior KC continued: "This year his family member had suspicions about the activities, justifiably.
"They chose" to examine in the defendant's belongings."
Mrs Prior KC said materials including infant oil, Vaseline and syringes were discovered, and his stepson notified the authorities about his worries.
She explained Ruben went on to conduct the "candy game" with six children that night - Saturday 26 July - and they were all ill the subsequent day.
"Law enforcement" had not arrived by that time," she stated further.
The police watchdog, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, earlier informed that it was examining the police response of the incident.
The legal representative explained the youngsters were unable to walk properly due to their sickness, so the family member contacted the police again.
She stated Ruben then engaged in the "sweet game" in a room of five children.
